Movie Film To

Digital Transfers

Film Transfer 8mm, Super 8mm, 16mm Film To Digital

We know you have a choice about where to get your film transferred… thank you for choosing us.

We realize that the film transfer that we are working on is very precious to the customer and their family. All transfer work is completed at our studio in Virginia Beach and handled with the utmost care and consideration.

Film is remarkably resilient, but it is not immune to time. Color dyes fade. Film can shrink or become brittle. In some cases, chemical decay produces a sharp vinegar odor—an early sign of permanent damage. Ironically, some of the most meaningful memories are often recorded on the oldest film, placing them at the greatest risk.

Our company’s process and technique is a direct-to-the-computer-system operation, without any external or outward projection onto a screen. In fact, each frame is scanned individually, and the resulting video is high-definition. You do not have to be concerned about your personal film transfer being shot on to a wall surface or perhaps any kind of mirrored (reflected) box. Our staff uses special professional equipment. This is the same equipment used by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences to transfer Hollywood movies. We also add background music at no extra charge.

Videotapes: VHS, DV, 8mm, Hi-8, DVCAM, Digital 8

Videotape relies on magnetic particles bonded to a thin plastic base. Over time, those materials slowly break down. The magnetic signal weakens. Adhesives deteriorate. Tapes can stretch, warp, or even snap. In humid environments, mold may form inside the cassette.

Even tapes stored carefully lose quality a little each year—often without obvious warning—until playback becomes distorted or impossible.

DVDs and Optical Discs

DVDs were once marketed as permanent storage, but many are now showing their age. Scratches, layer separation, and chemical breakdown—often referred to as “disc rot”—can cause freezing, skipping, or complete failure.

Once this process begins, it cannot be reversed.

Why Digital Preservation Matters

Digitizing your memories does more than copy them. It removes them from a fragile physical environment and places them into a format that can be preserved, backed up, and shared without further wear.

Proper digital preservation:

  • Captures content before additional loss occurs

  • Allows unlimited viewing without physical damage

  • Makes sharing with family easy

  • Enables secure backup in multiple locations

Most importantly, it ensures memories remain accessible—not locked inside obsolete technology.
